Choosing the correct foundation for your skin tone is VERY IMPORTANT. I always see a lot of girls that are either too dark; or too light to where they look like a ghost on a Halloween night (true story). Below are some good tips to keep in mind when choosing a foundation color that I learned and that is very important. Also, enjoy Findation.com; a website to help you match your shade to all your favorite brands or new brands you want to try (you must have one to two foundations you use to get accurate matches).
1. Know whether to use powder or liquid: Before choosing a makeup brand, know if you want to go with a liquid or a powder. If you know you have dry skin, please do not get a powder foundation. This will definitely give a ghost look.If you have oily skin, a powder foundation or a matte liquid foundation would be best for you. However, if you use a liquid then set your foundation with a setting powder so you will not become oily during the day. If you are a dry skin girl, use a dewy liquid foundation and set you makeup with a setting spray (not powder).
2. Matching your color: If you decide you want to go out to a drug store and get your foundation (or match a client with foundation) take a few Q-Tips with you so you can get the product from the container (I do not suggest using you finger for sanitary purposes). Choose the color you feel that best matches you or your client and use the Q-Tip to try it out. If the foundation matches you or you client skin AS SOON as you place it on, that is the WRONG foundation color; because once you blend it and it oxidizes (combine with oxygen in the air) it sill become too dark. However, if you put it on and it is a little lighter than you or your client, then when you blend it and it sits for 30-40 seconds it will be the perfect foundation.
